Life in the Nursery

2008 Updates:
  • July 27, 2008: My daughters have decided they are done showing their goats in 4H or FFA. Thus we will be selling some of the girls to reduce the numbers in the barn. So, if you are interested in purchasing some goats, please, take a look at the "For Sale" page. Our philosophy is that we would like to make the purchase of these animals feasible for 4H and FFA members. We offer a reduced price that we feel is equivalent to the current price being paid for breeding stock of other species in our county. Our daughters have learned a lot from their goat projects and we would like to provide this opportunity to other young people.

About Blue Mountain Goats:
Blue Mountain Goats are located in Northeastern Oregon in the beautiful Grande Ronde Valley. John, Ann, Alison, Megan and Briana Tanaka are the breeders, owners, and stall cleaners. We started raising Nigerian Dwarf Goats in 1998 and haven't looked back. We started with a single doe and a couple of wethers. The numbers seem to grow exponentially during kidding season, but luckily shrink back to a manageable number by the fall. We enjoy working with both 4H and FFA members that are interested in goats.

Health and Management: We've maintained a negative CAE herd, with our most recent testing by Washington State University (WADDL) in February 2008. In addition, we have never had a case of Johnes disease or Caseous Lymphadenitis. We are careful to only bring animals into our herd with these same qualities.
